Topic Flow: Trinity Flow Days >5000cfs 1995-2000

Caption:  This chart displays the number of days flow releases at Lewiston Dam exceeded 5000cfs. Data are for years 1995-2000. Wilcocks et al. (1995) observed that during such flushing flows, substantial improvement of surface gravel layers are obtained. Graham Matthews and Associates (2001) observed that such flows have not significantly improved gravel quality and conclude that (a) flows between 5000 and 7000 cfs are ineffective at achieving any sub-surface flushing, or (b) continued tributary sediment inflows have been sufficient to maintain the substrate in a degraded condition. Data based on U.S. Geologic Survey flow gage. See Info Links for more information.
