This is a pre-construction photo of a restoration project to improve fish passage for steelhead trout and Chinook salmon at a culvert in Adobe Creek. The image was taken during a high flow event and shows the area where fish needed to breach an approximate 12 foot rise. The United Anglers of Casa Grande High School initiated this restoration effort with funding from the National Marine Fisheries Service, as well as other local, state, and federal agencies. All images included in this topic were taken in 1996. Photo courtesy of the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Restoration Center Image Catalog.
This image is also pre-construction and shows the extreme drop at the culvert which was eliminated by the restoration project. Photo courtesy of the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Restoration Center Image Catalog.
Heavy equipment was used to place boulders in the creek for construction of the fish pools. Photo courtesy of the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Restoration Center Image Catalog.
Student volunteers from the United Anglers of Casa Grande High School (UACG) helped complete this restoration project. In this image they are clearing the creek of debris. The students, led by high school teacher and UACG founder Tom Furrer, have worked in Adobe Creek, planting vegetation, cleaning the stream, and working to restore water flow to the creek for close to 15 years.
