Sediment: Morrison/CFL McNeil Samples <4.0 mm, Redwood Cr 1994 (Raw) |
|
Caption: Charlotte Morrison collected fine sediment data in upper and lower Redwood Creek in 1994 using wet-sieve McNeil sampling techniques. Raw results from four samples at the two sites for fine sediment less than 4.0 mm are displayed here. The reference of 30% fine sediment less than 6.4 mm comes from the Garcia River TMDL (U.S. EPA, 1998). The 4.0 mm sieve chosen by Morrison (1994) does not include particles between 4.0 and 6.4 mm, which are in a size class known to infiltrate into redds. Despite this under-representation, all sand and fine gravel (<4.0 mm) measurements in both lower and upper Redwood Creek samples exceeded the reference, with the lower site (Redwd_Low) having two samples where more than half the bed was very fine gravel, sand and fines.
