Fish: Estuary Juvenile Steelhead Length July-November 1996 |
|
Caption: This chart shows the length of the juvenile steelhead in seining samples collected by Merritt Smith Consulting in the Russian River estuary from July through November 1996. Fish ranged in length from 80 mm to over 250 mm. Yearling and older steelhead are generally those over 100 mm (4 inches) with two year old fish usually over 150 mm (6 inches). Size classes are shown in different colors: young of the year are blue; yearlings light blue; two year old steelhead dark green; and three year olds in light green. The abundance of older age steelhead is expected in the estuary as fish have moved downstream and are staged for ocean entry. See InfoLinks for more information on sampling methods and findings of study by Merritt Smith Consulting (1997) in a study conducted for Sonoma County.
