Caption:  This chart shows the minimum, mean, and maximum Dissolved Aluminum (Al) levels measured during the Maine Department of Environmental Protection WQM Program's 2000-2002 stormflow study. Data were collected in October through July. Aluminum levels were generally high in Sheepscot basin (20.9 - 251.0 ug/L) with highest levels occurring in Wingood Brook (240.0 - 251.0 ug/L)and levels exceeding 100 ug/L in Choate, Dearborn, Griffin, and Hewett brooks, and the mainstem Sheepscot. Kroglund and Staurnes (1999) concluded that Atlantic salmon smolts were impaired by exposure to water with pH < 6.2-6.3 and inorganic aluminum concentration as low as 15-20 µg/L.
